Verbs

Look at this definition of verbs. Verbs are usually action words. They tell what someone or something is doing (or "did"). Take a minute to think of some other verbs.

Maybe you thought of verbs such as:
* swim
* read
* eat
* sing
* talk
* play

How many other verbs can you list? Do all of the words you chose as verbs ''show action'' or ''make a statement''? When you are ready to go on, press '''ENTER'''. The next screen tells you how verbs are used. Can you make some other sentences with the verbs you thought of?

Verbs are used to tell what is happening now, what happens all the .time, what has already happened, or what will happen. When something is happening now or happens all the time, we say the verb in the sentence shows ''present time'' (or present tense). If something has already happened, the verb shows ''past time''. If something will happen next week or anytime in the future, we say the verb shows ''future time''. Here are some examples:

:: Present time: I play every day.
:: Past time: I played with John last week.
:: Future time: I will play with her next Monday.
