→Garkon's Getaway
Garkon's Getaway, written by [[Bill Zielinski]], is a game of escape. According to the game's storyline. Garkon is trapped in the dungeon of a wizard. Your job is to help him escape by climbing through an open ing in a wall at the left side of the screen.
Ironically, you can't escape withoutthe help of the wizard. You see, thewizard has installed lasers in the ceiling ceiling which fire randomly at the dungeon dungeon floor. Wherever the laser beamhits, a colored block is formed, thusraising the floor of the dungeon. Thereare 28 blocks to each row and 20 rows.If Garkon is unable to escape by thetime the entire dungeon is built up,well, it's curtains. Using the joystick. , you move Garkon Garkon about in the hopes of avoiding thelasers. If a laser should happen to hitGarkon, forming a block over hishead, he "dies." His demise isdepicted by an angelic, white figurerising to the top of the screen to thetune of "Taps." Fortunately, Garkonstarts out with nine lives. The gamealso ends when Garkon runs out oflives.. As long as Garkon manages to keepfrom being struck by the laser, thelaser beam continues to lay downcolored blocks. (This process is interrupted interrupted only long enough to allow Garkon Garkon's angel to rise out of sight.) HoweverHowever, this by itself would not be ofmuch help. , since Garkon is able tojump up only one block at a time. Sincethe lasers are aimed randomly, thefloor is built up randomly. But Garkonis not simply a powerless victim offate. He is armed with a gun that iscapable of vaporizing blocks, one at atime. By vaporizing blocks, Garkoncan adjust the level of the block rows, creating a stairway of sorts to theexits, which are located at the left sideof the screen. There are three exits, each at vary-ing varying heights. The lowest exit is easiestto reach. The highest exit is extremelydifficult to reach. Bonus points areawarded by virtue of successfullyescaping through one of the exits. Thelowest exit adds 1000 points to the totalscore and one life. The second leveladds three lives and 3000 points. Thethird level adds five lives and 5000points.
