'''Enterprise takes you far''' {{Infobox review| title = Report Card Star Trek| performance = A| use = A| documentation = A| value= B +| grade = A-----| cost = $29.95 (cartridge)| manufacturer = Texas Instruments| requirements = console, monitor or television, (joystick, speech synthesizer optional)}} Star Trek is a creation of SegaEnterprises and a production of TexasInstruments. It gets its name from thepopular Paramount Pictures Corporation Corporation film. This space shoot'em up is one of thehandful of cartridge-based programsproduced as a cooperative venturebetween TI and major software developersdevelopers. All were released during thefourth quarter of 1983 and no more areexpected. ===Performance: === Star Trek is a well-designed, fast-moving game that getsmore difficult as your skill improves. In other words, the more Klingons youdestroy the deadlier their replacements replacements get until they manage to destroy you. You cannot "win" in this
game.
But I'm getting ahead of myself. The game starts immediately afterselecting the Star Trek option following following the title screen. The Star Trekthem theme is played as the game's titlescreen appears. Pressing any keyresults in a male voice saying "welcome welcome aboard, captain," if you've got aspeech synthesizer attached. The screen is divided into three rectanglesrectangles. The upper half of the screenincludes two rectangles. One is theRadar Scanner, which shows an entiresector of space. The other contains agroup of bar-graph type indicatorsthat monitor your energy shields,
photon torpedoes and warp drive.
The lower portion of the screen provides provides a simulated. 3-D view from thebridge of the Starship Enterprise. Play starts upon "boarding" theEnterprise. You find yourself in Sector1 with several Klingon vessels and asingle starbase. Starbases cc.1n can providethe Enterprise with one energy shield, one photon torpedo and one warp driveunit. To receive these items, you mustuse impulse power to pilot the Enterprise Enterprise directly over the starbase. Of course. the Klingons don't just goaway. Even though you've dockedwith a starbase. , you still must destroyall of the Klingons in Sector 1 toadvance to Sector 1.1. You may do thisby firing your phasers at close range,or by firing a photon torpedo when thetarget is out of range of your phasers.A photon torpedo is capable of destroying destroying several Klingons when it explodes. The Klingons will be firing at theEnterprise throughout the game soyou must try to maneuver your starship starship in such a way that the Klingonshots will miss. Each Klingon hit costsyo·u you one shield·shield.
But that's not all the nefarious Klin
gons will do. While there are 2 classes
